Learn the words German actually runs on. Every card is drawn from a frequency list built on tens of millions of words of real spoken German, so if a word is in here, you will meet it constantly.
How it works
- Tap a card to flip between the word and its meaning.
- Sort each word into Known or Learning with one tap.
- Swipe left to right to undo a decision you did not mean to make.
- Open either list to read every word and meaning on one scrollable page.
What is on a card
- The word, with its article marked the way German course books do it: -r for der, -e for die, -s for das. So “-s Auto”, “-r Mann”, “-e Frau”.
- A definition in German or English – tap the flag on the home screen to switch the base language. German definitions come from the German Wiktionary, English ones from the English Wiktionary.
- Its part of speech: noun, verb, adjective or adverb.
- How often it occurs, so you can see what “frequent” really means.
The app works entirely offline. There is no account, no sign-up and no network connection. Your progress stays on your device and is never sent anywhere. See the Privacy Policy.
Sources
Word frequencies come from the FrequencyWords project by Hermit Dave, counted in the OpenSubtitles corpus. German definitions come from the German Wiktionary and English definitions from the English Wiktionary, both processed via kaikki.org. All three are licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 and credited inside the app under the “?” button.
