SPELLSCAST

Privacy

Effective September 23, 2026

SpellsCast turns your phone into a controller for a game on another screen. You do not need an account or provide your name or email to play.

Camera and motion

The app uses your camera only while the QR scanner is open. Camera images are processed on your device to read the room code. SpellsCast does not save or upload camera images or record audio.

If you enable motion controls, the app converts your phone orientation into wand coordinates on your device. It sends those coordinates and the cast-button state to the game while you are connected. You can use touch controls instead.

Game sessions

The app uses Google Firebase Realtime Database to relay room codes, random session identifiers, player slots, wand coordinates, cast state, game commands, scores and lives between your phone and the game screen. The latest movement replaces the previous one; SpellsCast does not keep a movement history.

Player entries are removed when you leave or disconnect. Rooms are removed when the host disconnects. Removal may be delayed by network failures. Room codes are temporary access codes: anyone who knows a valid code can attempt to join that room.

Firebase and hosting providers receive technical connection information such as IP addresses as part of delivering the service. Their processing is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. See Firebase privacy information and GitHub's privacy statement.

Starting a game by sharing a link

If you create an automatic game link, SpellsCast reserves a room and stores a random pairing token and expiry time in Firebase. The link expires after ten minutes and can be used by one game screen. Sharing sends the link through the service you select in the system share menu; copying writes it to your device clipboard. Share it only with the device you intend to use.

The app removes an unused reservation when you cancel or when its expiry timer runs. If the app is abruptly terminated or offline, expired reservation data may remain in Firebase; the expired link cannot start a game. Once a screen claims the room, normal game-session cleanup applies.

On your device

The native app keeps your current room and practice session in memory. The browser game saves the best score and music preferences in your browser's local storage. You can clear those in browser settings. Offline spell practice does not send your drawn runes to the game service.

Analytics and advertising

SpellsCast does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or an analytics SDK. The development preview runs inside Expo Go, which has its own developer-service policies; those are separate from the standalone SpellsCast app.

Your choices and contact

You can deny camera or motion access, enter the room code manually, use touch controls, or leave the game. Contact the project owner through SpellsCast support. Avoid posting personal or sensitive information in a public issue.
